Academic research

PhD thesis:

The aim of my project is the isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from cyanobacteria. My daily work comprises the screening of cyanobacteria for antibacterial activities as well as the influence on the quorum sensing systems of other bacteria. Bioactive compounds are isolated using chromatographic methods such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), flash chromatography and liquid-liquid chromatography. The structure of bioactive compounds is determined by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS).
