Academic research

PhD thesis:

The aim of my project is the isolation and characterization of new anti-infective natural products by investigating actinomycetes strains isolated from Moroccan aromatic plants and macro algae as well as strains from the strain collection of the University of Tübingen. My lab work comprises the application of the One Strain Many Compounds (OSMAC) approach, the generation of extracts using different organic solvents, and bioactivity tests against Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative bacteria. The bioactivity-guided fractionation of the extracts as well as the isolation of new anti-infective natural products are carried out using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and other chromatographic techniques. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, tandem High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS), and other techniques are then used for structure elucidation of active compounds.
